ThenameGuyanaisderivedfromtheAmerindianword(Guiana)meaning‘LandOfManyWaters’.Thecountryliesinthenorth-eastofSouthAmerica,nestledbetweenSuriname,BrazilandVenezuelaanditistheonlySouthAmericannationwhoseofficiallanguageisEnglish.Guyana’spopulationisquitesmall,withlessthan1millionpeople,butyetisarichlydiverse,multiculturalstatewithdescendantsofEastIndians,Africans,nativeAmerindians,Chinese,andEuropeans.

圭亚那这个名字源自美洲印第安人的词（圭亚那），意思是“许多水域的土地”。该国位于南美洲东北部，坐落在苏里南，巴西和委内瑞拉之间，是唯一一个官方语言为英语的南美国家。圭亚那的人口规模很小，人口不到万，但却是一个多元化，多元文化的国家，有东印度人，非洲人，本土美洲印第安人，中国人和欧洲人的后裔。
